Dr. Alvaro Echeverri Arias

Biography

Alvaro Echeverri Arias is a Professor at the Université de Montréal, working primarily in the Department of Linguistics and Translation. His research focuses on the pedagogy of translation, particularly the active role of learners in their training. He is interested in the metacognitive dimension of learning and its influence on the application of active learning methods in the specific context of translation. Another field of research for him is the history of translation, where he contributes to the research group on the history of translation in Latin America (HISTAL). His studies include the examination of the role of translation and translators in the history of Latin America, specifically analyzing the translations of political texts from the pre-independence era, such as the Declaration of Human Rights and translations of the French and United States constitutions. Echeverri Arias also focuses on the development of translation studies through the analysis of a corpus of translation studies texts published since 1970 in English, Spanish, and French.
