Biography

Alvena completed her PhD in Tissue Engineering at University College London, where she investigated the mechanisms of collagen tissue growth and herniation. She served as a Research Associate at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, focusing on the development and clinical manufacture of novel stem cell-based therapies for patients suffering from blinding corneal disease. In 2016, Alvena was awarded the UCL Bogue fellowship to carry out independent research at Harvard Medical School. Her expertise particularly lies in utilizing aligned collagen tissue models to study cell-matrix interactions, as well as the biomechanical characterization of human tissues and materials.
