Biography

Alyssa Nielsen, MD, is a psychiatry resident at Yale School of Medicine. She studied neuroscience and dance at Tulane University before transferring to the University of Florida, where she participated in a combined BS-MD program. During her time in medical school, she directed a primary care clinic that specialized in gender-affirming therapy and established a free clinic for patients as part of the student-run Equal Access Clinic Network. At Yale, Alyssa served as Co-President of the Psychiatry Residents' Association and was a member of the Medical Student Education Committee, contributing to various initiatives. She also co-leads the Public Psychiatry Resident Interest Group and is part of the Public Psychiatry Clinician Educator Distinction Tracks. Alyssa is looking forward to the opportunities presented by her upcoming role as a 2025-2027 APA Public Psychiatry Fellow. Her research interests include public psychiatry, medical education, and investigating the perspectives of patients and their caregivers regarding mental health care.
