Biography

Amaka Vanni is a Senior Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law at the University of Leeds School of Law. She has been in this position since December 2020, focusing her academic work on international intellectual property law and international economic law. Vanni holds a PhD in Law from the University of Warwick and has an LLM in International Economic Law from the same university. She is an Associate Fellow of the UK's Higher Education Academy and a member of the Centre for Business Law Practice and the Centre for Law and Social Justice. Vanni's monograph, 'Patent Games Global South: Pharmaceutical Patent Law-Making Brazil, India, Nigeria,' published by Hart in 2020, won the 2018 SIEL-Hart Prize for International Economic Law. Her teaching covers a range of intellectual property topics at postgraduate levels, including patents and copyright, and she supervises undergraduate and LLM dissertations. She has extensive research experience across Brazil, India, and Nigeria and has served in various visiting scholar positions. Vanni is also involved in mentoring early-career scholars and has held leadership roles in networks focused on African International Economic Law.
