Biography

Amalia Arvaniti is a Professor at Radboud University, specializing in Linguistics within the Centre for Language Studies and the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. Her research primarily focuses on prosody, particularly the production and perception of intonation and rhythm in speech. She also has a keen interest in the study of speech variation in contexts such as diglossia and bilingualism. Currently, her work includes an ERC-funded project titled SPRINT (Speech Prosody Interaction), which aims to provide an integrated phonological model of intonation while considering phonetics and pragmatics. Additionally, she is working on documenting the phonetics and phonology of Greek from a post-diglossia perspective and is preparing a monograph titled 'Sound Structures of Greek'. Her distinguished research has been supported by several grants, including the Leverhulme Major Fellowship and others from Radboud University. Throughout her academic career, Prof. Arvaniti has contributed significantly to the fields of phonetics, phonology, and sociophonetics, and continues to be actively involved in research projects from 2019 to 2025.
