Dr. Amanda Alencar

Biography

Amanda Paz Alencar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She specializes in media migration and intercultural communication with a research focus on how communication technologies shape mobility and sociocultural integration processes among refugees in diverse contexts. Amanda has been a visiting fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, where she developed a research project on digital integration and livelihoods for forced migrants. She received her PhD in Audiovisual Communication Journalism from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2012, and her thesis earned her the summa cum laude distinction. Amanda has also completed a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship aimed at promoting interculturalism through her research. Her work has contributed to various research projects examining interculturalism, diversity in cinema across Europe and South America, and the effects of narrative messages on Muslim integration in the Netherlands. She has authored numerous publications in prestigious journals and is actively involved in digital training programs for students with refugee backgrounds at Erasmus University.
