Biography

Dr. Bicket grew up in Baltimore, MD, where she was exposed to medical device design in high school during an internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital's Department of Neurosurgery. Graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in biology, she earned her M.D. from Duke University, where she carried out research in ophthalmic photography aimed at enabling remote diagnosis of pediatric eye diseases in underserved areas. After completing her ophthalmology residency at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, Dr. Bicket discovered her passion for innovations that change surgical glaucoma care and for fostering long-term patient relationships through education and advocacy. She briefly returned to Duke Eye Center for a glaucoma fellowship before joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins, where she practiced for 5 years working on new glaucoma surgical devices and studying treatment preferences and experiences of glaucoma patients. Now at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, she continues her research and is actively involved with the American Glaucoma Society (AGS) Committee on Patient Preferences & Outcomes, assessing patients’ priorities to inform clinical trial design. Dr. Bicket specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts, focusing on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques.
