Biography

Amanda is an associate professor and principal investigator at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, where she utilizes stem cells to advance vision research. Her lab employs pluripotent stem cells to understand mechanisms and investigate new treatments for inherited degenerative macular degeneration, focusing on the development of cellular therapies and molecular medicines to treat vision loss. In her role, she leads the academic Stem Cells Eye Repair module as part of the MSc Bioscience (Research Development) course and teaches several other UCL courses, concentrating on the use of stem cells to model diseases. Appointed Deputy Theme Lead for Rescue, Repair, and Regeneration in the 2021 Genomic Discovery Therapeutics Theme, she also serves as the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Champion within the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
