Biography

Amanda Clayton’s research focuses on the consequences of women’s political representation and how electoral gender quotas shape the substantive representation of women’s interests in national legislatures. Her work explores how the exposure of women officeholders influences citizen behavior. Currently, she is involved in a book project examining the origins of gender differences in climate attitudes worldwide. Amanda's research has been published in leading journals, including the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and International Organization. Her work has garnered funding from notable organizations such as the National Science Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Additionally, she has consulted for international organizations, including the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network in the Africa Region, USAID’s Women’s Political Participation Leadership Program, and the OECD’s Public Governance Directorate. Amanda is a founding member of EGEN and an active member of the EGAP research group.
