Biography

Amanda has a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biochemistry and a PhD in Medical Research from the University of Tasmania. Her doctoral research focused on microvascular blood flow, insulin resistance, and skeletal muscle. Following her PhD, Amanda undertook postdoctoral work examining the mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and exercise training adaptations, with a particular emphasis on mitochondria. Currently, her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which selected polyphenol compounds ameliorate insulin resistance. She aims to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by addressing issues related to health and nutrition, especially in the context of metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Amanda has collaborated with scholars across Australia, Europe, and other regions, engaging in various research projects that explore the complex interplay of metabolism, stress signaling, nutrition, and exercise.
