Biography

Amanda Lagerkvist is a full professor of media communication studies at Uppsala University and the founder of existential media studies. Her current research focuses on biometric AI and the relationships between technology, disability, selfhood, and the ambivalent imaginary of AI futures. Lagerkvist is the principal investigator of the Uppsala Hub for Digital Existence and has directed research programs including 'BioMe: Existential Challenges and Ethical Imperatives of Biometric AI in Everyday Lifeworlds'. She has been involved in numerous research projects and networks, notably establishing the DIGMEX network, which includes 180 scholars specializing in digital media studies. Additionally, she has served on various academic committees and has been a visiting scholar at King's College, London, and the Helsinki Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
