Biography

Amanda Lynch obtained her Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Melbourne in 1993. Her research focuses on the intersection of atmospheric science and environmental governance, with particular interests in the Arctic and the convergences of rapid change in natural and human systems. She developed the Arctic regional climate system model in 1993 and has received several accolades, including the Priestly Medal in 2008. Amanda is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, the Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research, and the World Academy of Art and Science. She serves as an editor for the Journal of Climate and Weather, Climate Society. Amanda is also the chair of the Research Board for the United Nations World Meteorological Organization. In 2018, she co-authored a book titled 'Urgency in the Anthropocene' with human geographer Siri Veland. Additionally, she is the founding director of the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society.
