Biography

Amanda Skillern is an Assistant Professor at the Dell Medical School, specializing in the Department of Women’s Health. A native Texan, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, where her studies culminated in an honors thesis in health psychology focused on women’s sexual and reproductive health, solidifying her interest in the field. She completed her medical degree at Texas Tech University and went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Furthering her training, she completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco. Skillern is board certified in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and she practices at Fora Fertility. Her areas of interest include ovarian reserve in the context of natural ovarian aging and responses to chemotherapy and radiation. She is also interested in options for extending fertility, including oocyte cryopreservation, embryo cryopreservation, and oocyte donation. Her basic science research focuses on the process by which primordial follicles (eggs) diminish in the context of ovarian aging and response to chemotherapy, informing novel approaches in clinical practice for women facing diminished ovarian reserve due to cancer treatment. Skillern views assisting patients in their family-building journeys as her life's work and feels honored to collaborate with Dell Medical School.
