Biography

Amanda Third is a Professorial Research Fellow at the Institute for Culture and Society and Co-Director of the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University. An international expert in youth-centered, participatory research, Amanda investigates children’s and young people’s technology practices, particularly focusing on marginalized groups and rights-based approaches. She has led child-centered projects to understand children’s experiences in the digital age across 80 countries, collaborating with partners from corporate, government, and not-for-profit sectors. Amanda has spearheaded consultations with children and co-authored significant reports, including the UNCRC General Comment 25 on Children’s Rights in the Digital Environment, under the leadership of Prof. Sonia Livingstone from the London School of Economics. She has contributed to notable publications such as 'Rights in a Digital World: A Snapshot of Children’s Views' (5Rights Foundation, 2021) and 'Young People in a Digital Society: Control/Shift' (Palgrave, 2019). Amanda and her colleagues were honored with the 2022-2023 Emerald Publishing Real Impact Award in the international impact category for their efforts in mobilizing research into action.
