Biography

Amanda Veile is an Associate Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. She specializes in evolutionary anthropology, focusing on human evolution, behavioral reproductive ecology, and maternal/child health. Veile received her Ph.D. in Evolutionary Anthropology from the University of New Mexico in 2011, after which she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology. Prior to joining Purdue's faculty in 2015, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Dartmouth College's Department of Anthropology. Dr. Veile conducts research on various aspects of human evolutionary biology, including infant feeding patterns and adaptive growth strategies. Her work investigates the causes and consequences of rising cesarean delivery rates within indigenous populations in Mexico, as well as the impact of urbanization and migration on indigenous health in Peru. She currently directs the Laboratory for Behavior, Ontogeny and Reproduction, where she utilizes wet lab techniques to study metabolic hormones in human saliva and dried blood spots. Her research has received funding from multiple institutions such as the National Science Foundation and the Purdue Research Foundation, and her findings have been published in esteemed journals and covered by various media outlets.
