Biography

Amanda D. Watson is an Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University in the Sociology and Anthropology Department. Her research explores critical areas such as care, labor, social reproduction, affect, disability, the climate crisis, media representation, and maternal labor identity. Amanda teaches various courses at the intersection of politics, family dynamics, global concerns, culture, capitalism, and power conflicts within Canadian society. She is currently an Associate Member in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. Her recent projects include the Imagine Kin Project, which examines how young adults envision relationships amidst interlocking crises. She also investigates the Politics of Social Justice Parenting, analyzing parenting experiences in contemporary emergencies and trends, and the Politics of Birthstrike, focused on how young adults navigate desires for ethical family life against the backdrop of population control and environmental sustainability. Amanda holds a PhD in Feminist Gender Studies from the University of Ottawa, a Master's in Social Work from Carleton University, and a Bachelor's in Sociology from the University of British Columbia.
