Biography

Amanda Woodward is the William S. Gray Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago, where she has been a faculty member since 1993. She served as Dean of the Division of Social Sciences from 2017 and previously held the position of Chair of the Department of Psychology (2013-2015) and Deputy Dean for Faculty Affairs (2015-2017). Woodward has been recognized for her significant contributions to the field of developmental psychology, receiving numerous awards including the Ann L. Brown Award for Excellence in Developmental Research and the APA Boyd McCandless Award for Early Career Contribution. A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Association for Psychological Science, she is also a member of the Board of Trustees for NORC at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on infant cognition and social cognitive development, investigating how infants understand social structures and cultural contexts that shape their learning. She directs the Infant Learning and Development Laboratory and is a founding member of the Center for Early Childhood Research.
