Biography

Amandine Léonard is a lecturer at the Edinburgh Law School, specializing in Intellectual Property Law. She joined the University of Edinburgh as an early career fellow in IP law in August 2020. Léonard's research and teaching interests primarily focus on patent law, particularly in the areas of patent enforcement and the rationales and objectives of IP law. Her scholarly work addresses the limitations and exceptions in IP law, the interface of competition law with IP law, and the liability issues surrounding patent infringement in the context of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). Prior to her position at Edinburgh, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Jean Monnet Center of NYU School of Law. Léonard holds a PhD from KU Leuven, where her dissertation explored the concept of 'Abuse of Rights' in European Patent Law. She has also conducted research as a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School and has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Göttingen. In addition to her academic roles, she is an affiliated researcher at the Center for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) in Leuven and works as an IP correspondent for GRUR International.
