Biography

Amber E. Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Section of Cardiology at the University of Chicago. She completed her undergraduate degree with honors at the University of Pittsburgh and earned her medical degree and masters in business administration from Jefferson Medical College and Widener University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Johnson undertook further training in patient safety and quality improvement at the Armstrong Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview in Baltimore, Maryland. She returned to Pittsburgh for a general cardiology fellowship and a research fellowship, during which she obtained a master's degree in clinical research. Dr. Johnson joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 2023, having previously served as a Staff Cardiologist at the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Health System and on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research, which focuses on health equity, social determinants of health, and mobile health technology, has garnered national recognition and resulted in numerous publications. Dr. Johnson has received several awards, including the National Minority Quality Forum's 40 under 40 Leaders in Health and the Women Escalator Award in clinical research.
