Jack Melson is a Senior Lecturer based in the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow and a member of the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory. He has previously held research academic positions at the University of Glasgow and the University of Dundee. He obtained his Ph.D. in psychology focusing on alcohol problems prevention from the University of Strathclyde and received a BA (Hons) in Research Methods within psychology. He is a Chartered Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and served on the Scottish Government's Distress Brief Intervention Programme Board from 2017 to 2020. His research interests include understanding and improving individual and population health and wellbeing, with an emphasis on the aetiology, prevention, and management of self-harm and suicidal behaviour. His current projects aim to enhance understanding of alcohol-related factors contributing to self-harm and suicidal risk development. He coordinates courses on the Masters Global Mental Health programme and welcomes enquiries from potential students in relevant areas of expertise.
