Biography

Ameera Haamid is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago, where she also serves as the Associate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director for the Chicago South EMS System (Region 11). Dr. Haamid provides medical oversight for multiple EMS agencies and is a core faculty member of the University of Chicago Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Haamid's research interests focus on health equity, EMS operations, event medicine, and prehospital research. She contributes to the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science Subcommittee of the American Heart Association and is an author of the 2025 AHA Comprehensive Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. Her educational initiatives aim at enhancing health equity and improving clinical care among medical professionals. Dr. Haamid has extensive field experience as an EMS physician at major events such as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the 2024 Democratic National Convention. She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Chemistry from Jackson State University and earned her MD from the University of Illinois Chicago. Dr. Haamid completed her residency in emergency medicine at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and an EMS fellowship at Denver Health Hospital Authority.
