Biography

Amélie Maugère is a professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Montreal since 2015. She conducted postdoctoral research at the International Center for Comparative Criminology (UdeM, 2011-2012) following studies in law and political science. She has also been a lecturer in criminology and social work at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue from winter 2013 to summer 2016. Her teaching has focused on research methodologies at the graduate level since 2015. Influenced by Michel Foucault's work on governmentality and gender studies, her dissertation addressed the evolution of prostitution policies, integrating various disciplines including political science, history, law, and sociology. Her research centers on the social control of intimacy (sexuality) and poverty, examining rationalities and norms within society and institutions. She actively contributes to discussions regarding the theoretical status of social work, leveraging her expertise in the epistemology of social sciences and case analyses, employing a mix of documentary analysis, interviews, and observations as her methodological approach.
