Professor Amin Hajitou obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Liège in Belgium. His Ph.D. training involved the use of retroviral vectors to transfer expression of oncogenes into normal mammary cells to investigate the pathways leading to cellular transformation in both murine and human mammary cells. In his thesis, Dr. Hajitou enhanced his skills in vector technologies, using adenoviral vectors for systemic delivery of inhibitors of tumor angiogenesis in tumor-bearing mice to assess the relevance of therapy. His research interests extended to elucidating the biology implicated in cancer phenotypes. In 2002, Dr. Hajitou joined the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in the USA, where he acquired substantial expertise in bacteriophage technologies and importantly, designed and developed a new generation of targeted hybrid viral vectors for systemic gene delivery in cancer. In 2008, Dr. Hajitou established his own research group at Imperial College London, where he progressed from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in 2013, Reader in 2016, and was appointed a full Professor in 2019.
