Biography

Amin Kamete is a Professor of Spatial Planning at the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences. He began his career as a lecturer at the School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography at Bangor University and is a chartered town planner. Amin launched his academic career at the University of Zimbabwe in the Department of Rural and Urban Planning, and later served as the Research Programme Coordinator at the Nordic Africa Institute in Sweden. His primary research interests revolve around urban spatial planning and the dynamics of cities in the Global South, particularly focusing on planning theory, practices, governmentality, development planning, and urban governance. Amin has contributed to significant research projects including the GCRF Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods, which aims to address the challenges of urbanization and migration in rapidly growing cities across Africa and Asia. He is also involved in supervising PhD students in various domains related to urban planning, sustainability, and governance. Throughout his career, Amin has authored and contributed to numerous studies and discussions on urban conditions, politics, and the marginalization of certain groups, emphasizing the spatial dimensions of power and resistance.
