Dr. Amin Kordestany

Biography

Amin Kordestany began his academic career as a lab instructor in 2009 at Petroleum University of Technology, a prestigious institution in southwestern Iran known for educating engineers in the oil and gas industry sectors. His proximity to major oil fields and a vast network of colleagues, alumni, and students allowed him to build broad knowledge stages of oil and gas production. Kordestany developed a teaching philosophy emphasizing the practical readiness of students to immediately assume professional responsibilities upon graduation. In addition to teaching duties, he successfully managed the experimental phase of multiple research grants, addressing industry-specific research topics. After completing his Ph.D., Kordestany started a postdoctoral fellowship, coordinating the experimental phase of five graduate students' research work, focusing on oil-solvent-water interactions to reduce the carbon footprint of Canadian heavy oil production. He has worked as a production workover engineer at NISOC, an E&P company with a capacity to produce millions of barrels of oil and substantial volumes of natural gas daily. As of July 2024, Kordestany joined the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at Penn State, leveraging years of experience in academia and understanding of industry demands to equip students with the knowledge and tools necessary for success in their future careers.
