Professor Dr. Amine Choukou

Biography

Amine Choukou is an associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Manitoba’s College of Rehabilitation Sciences. His research aims to improve healthcare access and patient outcomes, particularly for individuals in rural underserved areas. Choukou integrates artificial intelligence in at-home rehabilitation and sensor-based telemonitoring to develop user-friendly interventions for individuals with chronic conditions. His work focuses on optimizing healthcare delivery, promoting patient autonomy, and reducing barriers to care. Choukou’s research interests include digital health literacy, eHealth, geriatric rehabilitation, and usability of AgeTech rehabilitation technologies. He strives to ensure that individuals receive necessary care within traditional healthcare settings while addressing challenges related to long travel distances and inflexible scheduling. In addition to his research, Choukou is committed to medical education with a teaching philosophy centered on active learning, collaboration, and real-world applications. He fosters an inclusive, hands-on environment where students develop critical thinking skills and confidence to make meaningful impacts in healthcare.
