Aminul Islam joined the National Research Council Canada in December 2015, working within the Energy Mining Environment portfolio. During his time at NRC, he has been involved in the development of technology for characterizing materials resistance to wear and corrosion, as well as performing database analysis for erosion-corrosion assessments of materials used in oil sands applications. He constructed abrasion and erosion maps that combine over 20 years of test data from the Mining Materials Wear Corrosion consortium, which have been instrumental in the selection of material classes for specific wear and tribo-corrosion applications. Dr. Islam has trained and supervised several highly qualified personnel (HQPs) and has contributed to innovation in technology through the publication of research findings in high-quality journals and international conferences. To date, he has published more than 50 research articles and presentations, receiving over 500 citations and national/international awards. He currently serves as a reviewer for several journals including Wear, Tribology International, and NACE Corrosion, and is involved in the review process for NSERC MITACS proposals.
