Dr. Amir Attaran

Biography

Amir Attaran is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, with extensive training in law and biology, holding degrees from prestigious institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, the University of Oxford, and the University of British Columbia. His research spans various fields, focusing primarily on the social policy determinants of health related to both infectious and non-infectious diseases, as well as the constitutional, administrative, and environmental law in Canada, with an emphasis on biodiversity and climate change laws. In addition to his academic duties, Professor Attaran is also an active litigator, having appeared in courts across multiple provinces including Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, as well as Federal Courts. His varied expertise positions him as a significant contributor to discussions surrounding health law and intellectual property, particularly in the context of medicine and public health.
