Biography

Amir Hooshiar has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at McGill University since July 2023. He is the founding Director of the Surgical Performance Enhancement Robotics (SuPER) Centre. He received his Master of Science degree in biomedical engineering from Tehran Polytechnic in 2009 and his PhD in mechanical engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, in 2021. He has undergone postdoctoral training in surgical robotics at McGill from 2021 to 2023. Dr. Hooshiar’s research is focused on the design, development, and validation of autonomous soft surgical robots, as well as the development and validation of artificial intelligence-based decision support systems for intraoperative guidance and surgical skill assessment.
