Biography

Amir Hooshiar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at McGill University since July 2023 and serves as the Founding Director of the Surgical Performance Enhancement Robotics (SuPER) Centre. He earned a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Tehran Polytechnique in 2009 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, in 2021. Dr. Hooshiar completed postdoctoral training in surgical robotics at McGill University from 2021 to 2023. His research focuses on the design, development, and validation of autonomous soft surgical robots, as well as artificial intelligence-based decision support systems for intraoperative guidance and surgical skill assessment. He is currently supervising graduate students in various projects within his research group.
