Associate Professor Amir Karton leads a theoretical computational chemistry group at the School of Molecular Sciences, University of Western Australia. He currently holds an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship. His research interests focus on developing quantum chemical theory for calculating highly accurate chemical properties and procedures to solve problems in chemical structure, mechanisms, and the design within a range of chemical disciplines including biochemistry and nano-chemistry. His work includes computational design of graphene-based functional materials, elucidating mechanisms by which enzymes catalyze molecular transformations, and simulations of atmospherically relevant chemical reactions. Amir has received prestigious awards, such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) Journal of Physical Chemistry – PHYS Division Lectureship Award in 2020 and the Le Fèvre Medal from the Australian Academy of Science in 2018. He serves as the current Chair of the RACI Inclusion Diversity Committee and shares his expertise as an Editor for Chemical Physics Letters and Associate Editor for the Australian Journal of Chemistry.
