Professor Dr. Amir Payberah

Biography

Amir Hossein Payberah is an Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the Computer Science Division, specializing in software computer systems. He earned his PhD from KTH in 2013, focusing on distributed systems. During his doctoral studies, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Institute of Sweden (RISE), where he concentrated on data-intensive computing platforms. From 2013 to 2015, he served as a guest lecturer at Amirkabir University of Tehran (AUT). In 2017, he took on the role of machine learning scientist at Oxford University until 2018 before returning to KTH as an Assistant Professor in Computer Science. He currently directs the Information Communication Technology (ICT) doctoral program and represents the Software Computer Systems (SCS) specialization in the department. His research emphasizes the intersection of equity and justice in artificial intelligence, particularly in the context of large language models. He initiated the co-liberative computing research group, promoting critical awareness in computer science education and advocating for justice and equity as foundational values in research and education. His commitment to collective liberation seeks to address systemic injustices in the field of computing, aiming for technology to serve as a force for positive change.
