Biography

Amir H. Rezvani is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. His research primarily focuses on alcoholism and nicotine addiction, utilizing selectively-bred alcohol-preferring rats to better understand genetic predispositions to alcoholism. He is developing novel pharmacological treatments aimed at alcoholism and exploring the interactions between alcohol consumption and nicotine intake. Additionally, his research includes studying age and sex differences in intravenous nicotine self-administration in rats and how nicotine compounds can improve sustained attention. Since joining Duke in 1999, he has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, specifically in the popular alcohol course. Furthermore, Rezvani contributes to the community as a board member of the Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers and provides seminars on addiction-related topics across the country.
