Amit Acharya is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of the Mechanics, Materials, Computing (MMC) research group. His research primarily focuses on continuum mechanics, theoretical materials science, and applied mathematics. Acharya received his Ph.D. in theoretical applied mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994. He worked as a research scientist at a DOE-ASCI funded Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets at UIUC before joining Carnegie Mellon University in 2000.
