Biography

Dr. Amit Persad is an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and completed his undergraduate medical degrees. Dr. Persad trained in developmental neuroscience and cancer biology under Dr. Roseline Godbout, focusing on axon guidance cues in the development of the central nervous system. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan and underwent fellowship training in Neurosurgical Oncology and Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Stanford University, California, as well as in Epilepsy Surgery at Western University in London, Ontario. Dr. Persad is dedicated to developing a robust epilepsy surgery program and enhancing the neurosurgical oncology program within his division. His research interests include glioma development and the network integration associated with immunologic phenomena that characterize networks underlying mood and pain disorders. Additionally, he is passionate about resident education and surgical mentorship, hoping to contribute to the development of a residency program that will become a prime destination for Canadian trainees. In his personal life, Dr. Persad enjoys hiking and visiting lake locations with his fiancée.
