Professor Dr. Amitha Shajahan

Biography

Amitha Banu Shajahan is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Aalborg University, Denmark. She obtained her Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) from Kerala Veterinary Animal Sciences University in India, and furthered her education with a Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) and PhD in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology from ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute, India. She has served as a Veterinary Scientist at Amrita Research Centre in Delhi and collaborated with the Division of Urology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, Northwestern University, USA, focusing on translational regenerative therapies. Her research interests include developing innovative cell-based and cell-free strategies for skin, bone, nerve, and cartilage regeneration. Dr. Shajahan aims to design clinically relevant in vitro and in vivo models to advance next-generation regenerative therapies. She has expertise related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and her work aligns with the efforts to improve education and health in veterinary sciences. Her notable research includes the evaluation of bioactive glass biocomposites and their impact on bone regeneration in clinical settings.
