Biography

Ammar M. Ahmed, M.D., is a Professor and Program Director of Dermatology Residency Education at Dell Medical School. He is a leader in dermatologic education both locally and nationally, serving on the Steering Committee for the Program Director Section of the Association of Professors of Dermatology and co-leading a workgroup focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ahmed has been involved in multiple committees and spearheaded the development of educational materials for the American Academy of Dermatology. He developed the dermatology curriculum for the Mechanisms of Disease Module in Dell Med’s undergraduate curriculum. A graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, he completed his dermatology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, serving as chief resident. Since 2011, he has been a faculty member at the academic dermatology program in Austin and practices general dermatology while directing dermatology services for the CommUnityCare Health System. Ahmed has a special interest in pigmentation disorders, particularly vitiligo, and leads the Central Texas Center for Pigmentary Disorders. He has presented research findings at numerous meetings and has several peer-reviewed articles. In his free time, he enjoys travel, pickleball, and hiking with his family.
