Biography

Amos Channon is a Professor of Global Health in the Department of Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton. His research primarily focuses on access to healthcare in lower resource settings, particularly related to maternal and child health and the health of people with disabilities. He leads and collaborates on several significant projects, including ReGHID, which aims to understand the sexual and reproductive health rights of displaced women and girls in Central and South America. Another notable project he is involved in addresses issues faced by individuals with lower limb conditions in Nepal, including their access to healthcare. Channon is also the co-Director of the Centre for Global Health Policy and actively supervises PhD students engaged in impactful research. His extensive teaching experience includes a wide range of modules in demography and health research methods, and he has played a pivotal role in redesigning research methods education within his faculty. Amos holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Durham University and completed his PhD at the same institution. He has received recognition for his contributions, including a shortlist for a prestigious sustainability award. Throughout his career, he has transitioned from various roles within academia since joining the Department as a Teaching Fellow in 2007.
