Dr. Amos Nascimento

Biography

Amos Nascimento studied music, social sciences, and philosophy in Argentina, Brazil, the United States, and Germany. He completed his doctorate in Germany, focusing on the works of Karl-Otto Apel, Jürgen Habermas, and Michael Lutz-Bachmann at Goethe Universität Frankfurt. His academic career includes teaching positions at Goethe Universität Frankfurt, Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba in Brazil, and the University of Washington Tacoma. He has lectured in various countries across the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Nascimento's research focuses on critical theory, discourse ethics, and their applications in morality and politics, especially concerning human rights and cosmopolitanism. He also explores cultural and environmental issues pertaining to ethics and aesthetics, drawing connections between Europe, particularly Germany, and Latin America, especially Brazil. His recent teaching includes courses on the introduction to philosophy and environmental ethics. He is affiliated with programs in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, and Environmental Studies at UW Tacoma, as well as the Germanics Department and the Jackson School of International Studies at UW Seattle.
