Biography

Amparo Jiménez Quero earned her PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Strasbourg, France, focusing on the valorization of cereal by-products and the development of novel bio-based plastics. Following her doctoral studies, she continued her academic journey at the Royal Technical University (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, where she gained postdoctoral research experience. During her tenure at KTH, she developed expertise in biomass characterization processes aimed at converting biomass into chemicals, materials, and food additives. Her current research centers on key areas such as implementing a green chemistry approach to design bioprocesses, advancing biocatalysis for the identification, production, and utilization of specific enzymes from microorganisms, and conducting in-depth characterization of biomass sources including plants, algae, fungi, and bacterial cell walls. Sustainability education is a principal pillar of her career, reflecting her commitment to transferring knowledge and skills to foster a sustainable society. At Chalmers, she focuses on teaching sustainable methodologies for bio-based material production and mentoring bachelor, master, and PhD students. Additionally, she has established valuable scientific and technological networks through collaborations with diverse national and international partners. Presently, she serves as the coordinator for the EU project CIRCALGAE, which focuses on the circular valorization of algae biomass in collaboration with 22 partners across Europe.
