Biography

Amrita worked 25 years on issues related to infrastructure provision, urban environmental solutions, and community governance in Southeast Asian cities such as Bangkok, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as urban areas in Latin America. She served as Co-Director of the Urban Climate Resilience Southeast Asia Partnership, which funded the IPaSS program, a cooperative initiative of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and International Development Research Centre. This endeavor involved bringing together scholars and city builders from North America and Southeast Asia to study how to plan for urban climate change impacts, with a particular focus on rapidly growing secondary cities in Asia. In March 2016, she was appointed Vice-Principal and Academic Dean at the University of Toronto Mississauga, a position she held for five years until 2021.
