Biography

Amrita Hari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University. She holds a PhD from the University of Oxford and both an MA and BA (Hons) from the University of Toronto. Her research interests focus on global migrations, transnationalism, and diasporic formations, particularly the intersection of gender and race in the context of migration policies in a neoliberal global world. She is particularly invested in understanding the ways in which temporary migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers navigate intersectional identities and engage in acts of resistance in post-migratory contexts. Her work examines the reconfigurations of gender roles and the productive and reproductive labor that is shaped by these movements across borders. Amrita has taught various courses in the field, including Transnational Workers and Graduate Methods in Geography and Environmental Studies.
