Dr. Amy Benstead

Biography

Amy Benstead is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Management at the University of Manchester, recognized for her expertise in ethical and sustainable supply chain management. Her research primarily focuses on promoting justice, transparency, and sustainability within global supply chains, with a particular emphasis on addressing modern slavery. Benstead's work has significantly contributed to shaping industry standards and practices, including her role on the British Standards Institution committee that developed the national standard for modern slavery. She is currently leading a Leverhulme Trust-funded research project examining the role of worker voice in Leicester's garment factories. Benstead has received various awards for her academic work, including being a finalist for the Inspiring Women Awards in 2024 in the Sustainable Award category. She teaches courses related to Business Ethics, Sustainability & CSR, and Operations Management in Fashion Management, integrating her research into the curriculum. Additionally, she has extensive experience in the fashion industry, having worked as a Senior Merchandise Manager for Li & Fung in Istanbul, which supports her research and teaching. Amy actively participates in outreach programs to inspire younger generations to pursue careers in STEM fields, particularly within the fashion industry.
