Biography

Amy Blier-Carruthers is a passionate and innovative educator who specializes in performance studies and recording studio practices. She is a co-investigator on the AHRC Digital Transformations project ‘Classical Music Hyper-Production Practice-as-Research’ and a core member of the AHRC Research Network ‘Performance Studio’. She has collaborated with Aleks Kolkowski on the AHRC-funded project that focuses on the re-enactment of Arthur Nikisch's 1913 acoustic recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 with the Berlin Philharmonic. Amy has served as a Teaching Fellow in Performance at King’s College London and has lectured in Postgraduate Studies at the Royal Academy of Music. She completed her PhD at King’s College London, working with Professor Daniel Leech-Wilkinson on research relating to the CHARM project. Her academic career includes lecturing at the Royal College of Music and involvement in various research and educational initiatives in the field of music performance studies. Amy's research interests include recording studio practices, live versus recorded performance practices, and ethnographic methods of studying classical music, with a focus on the musicians’ experiences in these contexts.
