Biography

Amy Childress joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California in the summer of 2013, where she serves as the Dean's Professor and Director of the environmental engineering program. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and the University of California, Los Angeles, respectively, where she also completed her PhD. Before joining USC, she was a Professor and Chair of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her research focuses on membrane processes for desalination, water treatment, and wastewater reclamation, addressing the global challenge of freshwater scarcity. Childress has led numerous research projects funded by organizations such as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, NASA, and the California Energy Commission. She aims to develop innovative solutions for energy and contaminant challenges in water treatment, promoting sustainable practices in the field.
