Dr. Amy Chua

Biography

Amy Chua is the John M. Duff, Jr. Professor of Law at Yale Law School. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, earning her A.B. in 1984, and obtained her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1987, where she served as executive editor of the Harvard Law Review. After clerking for Chief Judge Patricia M. Wald of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Chua practiced law at the Wall Street firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton before entering academia in 1994. She joined the Yale Law School faculty in 2001 and has become a noted expert in foreign policy, political tribalism, and ethnic conflict. Chua is a bestselling author, with her notable works including "World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability" and the memoir "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother." Her recent novel, "The Golden Gate," was nominated for the Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Novel. Chua has been recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world and has received multiple awards for teaching excellence at Yale. She frequently appears in media and addresses various governmental and policy-making institutions.
