Biography

Amy D'Unger is a sociologist specializing in the areas of race, class, gender, inequality, social policy, and social control, particularly in relation to eugenics and crime. Her research examines the impact of neighborhood social disorganization, peer networks, family structures, and school ties on delinquency and crime throughout the life course. Currently, she is investigating the role of involuntary sterilization in the South as a tool of informal social control, especially during the Civil Rights Movement.
