Biography

Dr. Kirkham’s research program, operating CODE-W, aims to characterize the intersection of cancer, cardiovascular, and metabolic disease in women and quantify the therapeutic benefit of lifestyle interventions including exercise, diet, and multi-modal rehabilitation to prevent and ameliorate cardiometabolic dysfunction. Her assessment approach is comprehensive and holistic, using exercise as a key diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Dr. Kirkham employs a multi-disciplinary approach to characterize, treat, and improve the health of individuals at risk for cardiovascular and oncologic diseases. She has established novel imaging methods, including magnetic resonance imaging, cardiovascular ultrasound, and exercise echocardiography, as central tools in her research. Additionally, she utilizes cardiopulmonary exercise testing and biochemical analyses of blood biomarkers. Her research interests include intervention approaches involving acute and chronic exercise, healthy eating, intermittent fasting, and multi-dimensional cardiac rehabilitation. Dr. Kirkham is actively recruiting graduate students for PhD and MSc opportunities.
