Biography

Amy S.Y. Lee received her Ph.D. in Virology from Harvard University in 2012 and subsequently performed postdoctoral research on biochemical cellular mechanisms of gene regulation at the University of California – Berkeley. She joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University in 2016 and later moved to Harvard Medical School at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2020. Her lab studies how cells sense and respond to environmental signals that modulate protein synthesis. Specifically, the research focuses on uncovering the mechanisms that regulate specialized mRNA translation pathways critical for organismal development, viral infection, and cellular stress. To gain broad insights into the regulation of protein synthesis, her lab employs an integrative approach that combines RNA-protein biochemistry, cell-based experiments, structural biology, and the development of new sequencing-based technologies. This research aims to provide mechanistic understanding of translation regulation networks that are essential for the precise control required during development and cellular function.
