Dr. Amy Lerman

Biography

Amy Lerman is a Professor of Public Policy and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where she also directs the Possibility Lab. Her research focuses on public policy, public opinion, and political behavior, with a particular emphasis on issues related to social inequality and the American criminal justice system. Lerman has authored several influential books, including 'The Modern Prison Paradox,' 'Arresting Citizenship,' and 'Good Enough Government Work,' where she explores the interplay between government perceptions and citizen attitudes towards privatization. Her academic contributions have been published in a wide range of leading journals and recognized by prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and NPR. Aside from her academic pursuits, she has experience as a speechwriter and communications consultant for national nonprofits, as well as serving as an adjunct faculty member at the Prison University Project at San Quentin State Prison. Lerman's ongoing work aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, collaborating with community and government partners to drive systemic change.
